PROJECT OUTLINE
Precinct Urban Planning was engaged by the Ipswich Grammar School to provide town planning assistance associated with an extension to the school. The project involved the construction of a new 3-storey building to be used for Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM). In order to develop the new building, the existing Murray Hancock building, Box Room, former dormitory wing and existing dining hall will be demolished. The building work will reduce the current built-form footprint and open up views of the historic Great Hall building from Woodend Road.
Ipswich Grammar School is the oldest grammar school in Queensland and is identified as a State Heritage Place on the Queensland Heritage Register and a Local Heritage Place under the Planning Scheme. Due to the historical significance of the school, the project involved consideration of State and Local Heritage provisions and the preparation of a heritage impact assessment.
